Visions of Seattle

Bumbershoot came and went. And, before you go being lazy and looking at the photos, check out what I went there to do (and I what I've done for the past three years now). I wrote about the musical experience it is! You can read a couple of my sprawling pieces by clicking HERE (Day One) or HERE (Day Two). Day Three just burly went up ... you can find it HERE. And now that the advertisement is out of the way -- and now that you've read every last word, RIGHT? -- please continue, by all means.

Here she is, your first vision of Seattle. And it seems drunk, since I can't quite figger out how to turn it back around. I wasn't drunk, but I am blogtarded. Not always, but today I am. It's the Space Needle and clouds ... and it's upside down. If you want to see how I wanted you to see it, place both hands on the sides of your monitor and gently flip it over. Problem solved.

These are some peculiar berries I saw jogging the 'burbs of the city. Plewe wouldn't come with me because she didn't think she could keep up, since I was so much more muscular than the last time she'd seen me. Little did she know, I stopped every few blocks to take photos. Never jog with a camera. You'll never get any real exercise in.
First day of Bumbershoot and this guy was already asleep on the job. I'm not sure, but I think his wife might be taking a catnap as well. I was aghast. Because he was missing the show.
Yes, he was missing women in roller skates pushing one another down. It was not unlike watching the WWF. It was entirely too fake for its own good and, yet, people watching pretended right along with everybody there that this was a real sport. After a while, I couldn't blame the guy with the nice feathered hair for sleeping where he sat. Besides, that's going to be me someday. Gimme five years and it'll be happening.
Cindy is sooo past nametags. She personalizes her shirts! And she's especially fond of roasted corn on a stick. ObservePlewe, on the other hand, goes for Pixie stix. The hippies next to us kept throwing them in our general direction, so we kept scooping them up and dumping them in our mouths. I can't remember a time I've been happier. Then again, it could have been the effects of the secondhand pot smoke, you never can tell.
Cindy's glasses are cooler than mine. What's more, she prolly still has her glasses. I hardly got a chance to give mine that lived-in look. If you find them in Seattle, send'em my way, would you? E-mail me for my mailing address. I think they miss their home.
I sure like how European this photo feels. This was on our way down to the pier during our hunt for some fried Halibut 'n freedom fries (or fish 'n chips). On our way down, Plewe seemed especially proud to show me this ...
The gum wall! A wall of gum. I wonder how long that took. I didn't want my picture taken with the gum, per se, but it was a sight to behold nonetheless.
Watching Jacqui Naylor perform is a perfect time to practice your yoga. It was a little awkward when she did "down dog" after that, though.
Man, these guys were good on the drums. I could have watched for hours. Well, that's not exactly true. But I could have watched the people taking turns dancing for hours. Who needs a drum circle anyway?

Goodbye, Seattle ... for now. I'll miss you.

FYI - Neko Case didn't perform with the New Pornographers. She rarely does. It was Carl Newman's niece Kathryn - she usually tours with the band instead and does a bang-up job. Bad journalist!

You mean bad in a good way, right? Like I'm a bad, bad man?

If that's true, though ... my bad. I didn't exactly get reeeeal close.

seattle looks almost as dreamy as on grey's anatomy!

I'm so cute. I can't even handle it. I also love that picture of Sarah and the pixie stix. It looks sort of vintage, the colors are all faded and everything. Love it! I'm so glad I didn't miss Neko Case, makes me feel a whole lot better about everything.

If you'll read that above comment, they's saying that wasn't Neko Case. And I thought she looked suspect, but I've never seen her perform before, so I just went with that flow.

And, yes, I played with the colors of Sarah's photo. Gotta love the powers of Apple.

ha! I thought I looked more early 70's than I feel! that explains it. Dainon is a wiz at the photo manipulation.

If you hadn't mentioned that you were having rotational issues with the space needle, I would have thought it was intentional. I really like it.
