Band of Annuals

I have several friends who, instead of asking silly catch up questions like "So, you dating anybody?" or "You still happy with that one writing job?", ask me more important questions like, "Who are you listening to these days?" And, depending on the day, I usually don't have anything very meaty and substantial to offer them. That makes me ashamed.

Lately, though, my answer is thus: Band of Annuals. They have some kind of familiar Ryan Adams/Gillian Welch vibe about them and sound really pretty amazing live. Seeing them in concert forces me to be relaxed, tends to coax out a smile and allow for a slowly bobbing head. On top of all of that, it gives me a certain sense of pride to offer up that they're out of Salt Lake City. I honestly can't wait to be among those who say, "I knew them when."

If you're a local like me, I'm going to strongly suggest you catch them at their CD release party/concert at Kilby Court Friday night (5/4) or at Velour in Provo on Saturday (5/5). Pick up your $8 ticket at Slowtrain and head over to Kilby at 7:30. I can't stress how great the lead singer sounds live. Just bring more $$ with you because you'll want to pick up their album. For me, it's not even a question.

Caught a couple songs off their proper release this morning on the radio and they sound even better than that live Warehouse EP does. And you have heard it KNOW how good that sounds already. Yeah, color me excited. It's easy to be a fan of the stuff that sounds so good. Even better that they don't even appear to be trying all that hard. When you got it, you got it. Band of Annuals just does.

I like when my friends ask me similar questions. Or, they've given up on me dating someone. Hmm.
