Proud peacock.

Maybe I should start smoking cigars. Perhaps then I'd understand.

I’m not entirely certain when and where the tradition started, this whole nonsense of passing out cigars once your wife’s given birth, but, being somewhat of a traditionalist, I’d like to hand out a whole mess of them today, tomorrow and, well, as long as it takes to spread the news. Granted, I have no kids and I’ve yet to scare up a wife, but my older sis Nicole just had herself another little girl (name is TBA) last night. Reports are that she’s a dark-haired Eskimo-looking bundle of a baby. I believe she even arrived a few days early but, considering the weight she measured in at, she was plenty developed and heavy enough to be considered a toddler. I wish my life was such that I wasn’t working all day and into the night the next few days, as I’d like to go lay eyes on this new girl myself, but it’s not happening. Not yet. Maybe Sunday at the earliest. But I can still be proud. Proud enough to let the world know it’s happened. I’m an uncle about 15 times over now, but I can’t help but beam a little bit anyway. Life, in all its brand spanking newness, tends to get at the heart of me.

Oh, and what’d she weigh in at? The numbers I seem to recall from the phone call last night were 10 lbs and 9 oz. I’m not a competitive person, but I am just a little happy that she didn’t quite manage to beat my weight. After all, I’ve still got three ounces on her.

So there.

Congratulations.

And you were an 11 pound baby?

Don't tell your future wife that until youre at least engaged.

Typical response when I share that is: "Oh, your poor mom." I think at least six pounds of that was in my head.

Congrats on the new baby! I'll bring a cigar for you on sunday...? We're in a bit of a baby drought in my clan - and i'm not about to do anything to change that! I'll leave that to my sibs.

Dainon-yeah, I thought that after my jealousy of you being an uncle (I'm 30 and not an aunt yet),

The very IDEA of a ten pound baby is enough to make me get my tubes tied.
I had an actual fear once- a guy I was dating had the biggest head I'd ever seen. Every time I'd look at it, I'd cry imagining what my future might hold.
