Run like hell.

So I'm doing it again—a half marathon. Or am I? Maybe.

See, I got ambitious and signed up for the Moab Half Marathon, which included dropping a registration fee that set me back about $50. Only it didn't really. Not yet. See, here's where the vocabulary gets confusing—I'm in something other more seasoned runners than myself call a "lottery". If I'm one of the winners, I get to run. Apparently, it's so popular, there's no such thing as "first come, first served."

I'm no sports aficionado by any stretch of the imagination, but we're in what I can't help but term a win-win-win situation here. Yes, I've already started to run like crazy again, cursing the fact that I have to sometimes take to the treadmill versus the good natural earth-beneath-my-sneaks ground outside. This means I can still gorge on pumpkin pie and chocolates from my stocking over the next month and I still look all slim and sexy (win #1). If my name is drawn from the hat, I get to run like mad down in Moab in March, proving that weeks of training still mean I can only run for about three miles consecutively before taking an asthmatic breather (win #2 ... sort of). Finally, should I get passed over, no money will be spent, they'll tear up my credit card number and I will not have to log another 13 miles on my runners. And that win (#3 for those keeping up) is better than any pile of money falling into my lap.

No wonder they call this thing a lottery. I understand now.

I went on a 3 day canoe trip down that river and hiked that ridge between that bow of water. Beautiful country if you don't mind the swarms of mosquitoes at dusk and the occasional dust storm. If you want to go running with me (or start out running with me and then continue to run circles around me) I'm all for it! I've got to lose 5 more pounds before I go to England on the 23rd.

So if you win......who are we throwin' the rocks at?

Wha...wait. Are you really asthmatic also?

Nope. But, after running and running and running, I sure can empathize with the sufferers.

Find one closer to Vegas & I'll run with you... I need an upcoming race for motivation, but Moab's kind of a long drive from here.

hey, if we both get in... we might actually see each other for once. we were DENIED last year but i was sort of relieved. this year i'll be bummed if i don't. starting to get crazy ideas about a full marathon.

i've recently started stocking up on cold weather gear for running. it's so much better to be outside even if my buns are cold.

Okay good, that would've been a little weird if you're asthmatic also. Good luck either way, March is a fine time to run in Moab.

I hope you get in! I wish I could run it with you. I only say that because there's no way in hell I can but I really wish I were down in Moab right now. Texas is cool and all but I'm getting tired of everyone making fun of my accent.

Either way, it's positive thinking. Promise.

Ais, Zina, Bawdy ... we shall all run together, eh? Count on it.
