RIP Jeff Healey.

Jeff Healey died Sunday at the age of 41. It was largely due to complications resulting from a rare form of retinal cancer, a disease that claimed his eyesight at the age of one. Read more HERE.

You might recall him as the one who headed the bar band in that awesomely awful Roadhouse movie. I'll remember him as the blind blonde Canadian bluesman, the one with the wispy mullet, the guy who played some seriously wicked guitar by laying it in his lap. If you're Canadian, you've likely heard his music. If you're not, chances are probably slim.

I'm as Yankee as they come. I just grew up over yonder is all. Still, this tune was part of my high school years. And it sounds as good now as it did back in 1990. It's the closest he ever got to a pop hit, I think.

"Angel Eyes" was my first real "church dance" song. (Soon to be followed by enduring Depeche Mode's "Somebody" for the rest of my youth dance career.) I always loved Jeff Healey's sound. He also does a great rendition of "While My Guitar Gently Weaps" that I always liked.
What an amazing man and musician!
