I need your help: Song-off.

So, my friend Katie and I are attempting something I've never done before ... but I need your help. We each picked a song that we thought was, well, one of the most amazing songs EVER ... and we're asking you to help vote which is better than the other. There are no loyalties ... you just pick the song that's best is all. At this point, I don't know what she picked and she's hasn't a clue as to what I have picked. We're each allowed 50 words or less to introduce it, as the songs ought to stand on their own. That said ...

Years ago, my friend Genevieve made an entire CD filled with this song. I thought it pretty excessive, but tried to play along. She even made me listen to it on occasion, with the lights out and the moon bright. I absolutely did not get it then. I do now.

To listen to the song, please click HERE.

After doing so, please click HERE to visit Katie's post and listen to her selection.

After all of that, c'mon back and vote on which song trumps the other and why. That's it. Easy as pie. This is gonna be whole bucketfuls of fun. Like a mini- American Idol competition. Ready and GO!

My vote is on Katie's song.

Both are immense.

Katie's means more to me though and so my allegiance stays with that song.

As much as I love Jeff Buckley, I have to go with the JAMC. Brings back memories of a great time at the Speedway Cafe way back when... (NIN actually opened for them on that tour!)

I think it's hard to describe why certain songs speak to us more than others. That's the only explanation for why I'm voting for Dainon's pick. It resonates with me. Clean, simple, and beautiful. My vote's for Hallelujah.

I don't think it would have even mattered what K8 picked. This song is well deserving of an entire CD of itself. You get my vote this week Dainon.

I love this game. I really, really love it.

Jeff Buckley all the way. It always brings me to tears. I walk around with a lump in my throat all day. I guess I linda like it. Is that weird?

Never heard either of them before so I have no background & would have to say I liked Hallelujah best. Made me want to love someone.

I vote for Hallelujah. Although I think it's hardly fair to whip that one out in a song-off. You dirty cheat!

Just like honey...reminds me a bit of the Stone Roses and they are one of my faves. That and the Hallelujah song has been (for me) overplayed so Kate's wins

Hallelujah gets my vote. It may be a biased opinion since I've heard the song before. But I fell in love with the song when I first heard it on the radio and I still love it.

The other I felt was a bit abrasive sounding for my taste. Or maybe just my mood today. I liked the song, just not as much as the other. Although, I like the sexy men's voices in both songs.

Plus, well, Buckley sounds great in the wintertime. But perhaps that's a given. In the winter, at night, with a fire blazing somewhere nearby, close enough for you to hear it crackling. Hallelujah, indeed.

even though i know every exhalation, every pause, every soaring line on the buckley cover, i watched the video last night about 1am and was just struck anew by, damn, what a marvelous invention of that song he creates. fully fully a classic, a heartwrenching one that that. and i love that video - hadn't seen it in too long. have you read dream brother? an aside. you get my vote. even though katie's choice is pretty rad for all that it evokes.

That's not a fair competition. Buckley, of course. Although for Lost in Translation that song was amazing and perfect...

Hallelujah.

Hey, legend. I was so prepared to vote for Katie. I listened to her song first. It totally takes me back, but then listening to your nomination, there's something so beautifully painful and heart-wrenching about "Hallelujah." "Just Like Honey" is fun and nostalgic and catchy, but "Hallelujah" pierces the soul. You win this round for me. Let's hear a Round 2...

I'm glad you finally realized the genius of Jeff Buckley. I mean come on, I named my dog after him. You know what gets my vote.

Maybe in another ten years you'll begin to understand the amazing talent of James.

Dainon. said...

Ha. Maybe James will resonate, Beav. One day. Don't lose hope.

Howdee,

My two bits: Katie Won.

I dislike Jeff Buckley's version because I first heard the Leonard Cohen.

Overall though I can't see these two songs head to head, they are too different.

The songs are so different and I love them both, but man, Hallelujah gets my vote. It reached out and grabbed my heartstrings.
